Batcombe Vale Campsite

Batcombe Vale Campsite is set in a designated "area of outstanding natural beauty", and set in the middle of one of its secluded valleys is an enclosure of trees, lakes and wild landscaped gardens around Batcombe Vale House.

Voted by readers of the Practical Caravan magazine as one of their favourite 100 campsites, and featured in the Independent 'The 50 Best Campsites'

CAMPING AND CARAVANNING FACILITIES

The landscaping at Batcombe Vale Campsite includes thirty individual pitches of mown grass, all adjacent a hard roadway. There are electric hook-ups; water, drainage and rubbish points.

A log cabin contains basins, sinks and showers with free hot water, together with toilets and a chemical disposal unit and tourist information, all well lit after dark.

Bed & Breakfast can be obtained at the House; caravan storage is available.

The 120 acre valley around the campsite is part of Batcombe Vale; you are welcome to wander and picnic in the fields. Free rowing boats on the boating lake provide fun for children and adults alike (parents are fully responsible for their children's safety and behaviour). There are beautiful wild gardens, wooded areas, and shaded glades to explore or just relax and observe the abundant wildlife. Walks of varying lengths can be enjoyed from the campsite, including one to the local pub!

Three of the four lakes within the campsite have scores of carp and tench up to 20lbs. The largest and most picturesque lake is available for fishing on. We expect the fish to be treated kindly with the use of barbless hooks and landing nets - keep nets are forbidden. Fishing licence required.

Travel back in time to the halcyon days of steam on the five mile round trip through the rolling Mendip countryside. Visit the engine sheds to see how the locomotives are looked after and step into the signal box to watch the signalman at work.

Cranmore Tower

Cranmore Tower is a 19th century folly on the East Mendip range offering spectacular views of 7 counties on a clear day. Climb the Tower’s 184 steps or walk and relax in the beautiful deciduous Cranmore wood. Tea, coffee and cakes are available from the Tower Tea Rooms.

Kilver Court Secret Gardens

Hidden in the heart of the Mendips are the Secret Gardens of Kilver Court, featuring a millpond, parterre, herbaceous borders, rockeries and the Charlton Viaduct.  The 3-acre plot offers an oasis of tranquility and reflection for all visitors. Farm shop and Cafe.

Nunney Castle

The striking and picturesque moated castle of Nunney was built in the 1370s by Sir John de la Mere, a local knight beginning to enjoy royal favour. Extensively modernised in the late 16th century, the castle was held for the King during the Civil War, but quickly fell to Parliamentarian cannon in 1645.

King Alfred’s Tower

Built as part of the Stourhead estate and landscape in the 18th century, its size makes it an imposing addition to the landscape. Walk the 205 steps to the top and the views are breathtaking. The tower commemorates the end of the Seven Years’ War against France.
