The Blacksmith Arms is a pub in the pretty village of Alvington between the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley. It is a family run free-house with a large outdoor children's playground. Inside the pub there's pool and darts real ales and good food.
Behind the pub there is a small basic camping area with a water tap and waste disposal facilities and a shower block with toilets. Three pitches have electric hook ups.
Alvington is close to many interesting sights which include the Clearwell Caves, Littledean jail and the Great Western Railway Museum. From Alvington you can travel by car and visit Hopewell Colliery, Chepstow Castle, Puzzlewood Maze and Lydney Docks.
If you want to travel further afield Bristol is only 18 miles away and this is a vibrant busy city crammed with things to do and see.
Gloucester is another large town where you can see the Cathedral, go shopping or enjoy the weekend Farmer's Market.
Cheltenham isn't far in the car and you can see the Tudor architecture and visit the Heritage Centre and relax in one of the many parks and gardens.
If you just want to relax and not travel at all, then the countryside around the Blacksmiths Arms is a delight to explore.
Within easy reach there is golf, caving, canoeing, sailing, rope climbing, abseiling, biking, rambling, hiking, steam railways, riding, fishing, visiting a coal mine, puzzlewood maze, watching racing or visiting the Sunday Market at Chepstow Racecourse. There is an outdoor activity centre with lots of activities at Chepstow close to the UK National Diving centre which is only minutes away by road.
There are so many wonderful places to visit and things to do in this area. Tintern Abbey, Hopewell Colliery, Clearwell caves, Dean Forest railway, Historic Chepstow Castle, Forest Visitor Centre Beechenhurst, Ross on Wye, Symons Yat, Puzzlewood, Lydney Docks are just a few.
