The Waterloo Inn

The Waterloo Inn is a friendly and sociable pub-based campsite. There are shops, restaurants and other amenities all within easy reach of the site.

In the centre of the "White Peak" is the delightful village of Hartington. It is a limestone region that forms the southern part of the Peak District National Park. Harington lies at the northern end of the gorges which marks the famous section of the River Dove, which is only a short walk away from the site.

OUT AND ABOUT

? Hartington has some of the most spectacular scenery in England located in the area.

? Dovedale has narrow limestone gorges and spectacular spires of rock. It is only a few miles away and can easily be reached on foot from Hartington.

? Arbow Low is only a few miles from Hartington. It is an impressive 'henge' monument that was constructed by Neolithic farmers approximately 5,000 years ago. There is a circle of stones lying within an earth ditch and bank. The stones are lying flat upon the ground, not upright as with most stone circles.

? The Manifold Valley is another spectacular limestone valley close to Hartington. It is narrower than Dovedale and it has a cycleway along the bottom of the valley that follows the track of an old light railway.

? Thor's Cave is the most impressive sight in the Manifold Valley. Thor's Cave was home to primitive man during the Mesolithic period. Archaeologists have found numerous tools and artifacts dating from as far back as 10,000 years ago.

? The most famous attraction in the Peak District is Chatsworth House. It is the home of the Dukes of Devonshire and it is a magnificent classical-style house that is set in a huge landscaped park.

? Within easy reach of Hartington, Haddon Hall is another famous visitor attraction. It is an almost perfectly preserved medieval manor house. It was originally the home of the Vernon family who were the lords of the manor for Bakewell.
