Grouse and Claret

Located at the gateway to the Peak District National Park, The Grouse and Claret is an ideal base for exploring the region as well as being a convenient base for business travellers. The site can be found on the A6 between Matlock and Bakewell. It is within easy reach of Chesterfield, Sheffield, Derby and Manchester.

The Grouse and Claret caravan park is in the rear of the site and sits on the River Derwent. It has stunning views. Every pitch has hard standings and electric hook-ups. The toilet block is inside of a stone-built barn. The site's pub has everything from sandwiches to pub meals.

OUT AND ABOUT

Nearby Peak Village can be reached from a riverside path. They have a pub and a factory shopping outlet. Also within walking distance is Caudwell's Mill. You can visit a craft centre in Rowsley.

? BAKEWELL: Located on the banks of the River Wye, the river meanders gently through the town's centre. This lovely old market town is in the heart of the Peak District and is surrounded by stunning countryside views.

? CAUDWELL'S MILL is in Rowsley and is a working 19th century flour mill that still mills and sell flour. You can go for a guided tour there. They also have a mill shop and a tea room.

? CHATSWORTH HOUSE: It was first built by Bess of Hardwick. It was where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned. It is Home of the Dukes of Devonshire, the Cavendish Family. It is truly the greatest house in the Peak District.

? HADDON HALL: Part of the house dates back to the 12th century. It is a medieval manor house and home of the Dukes of Rutland. The hall sits like a jewel in its Elizabethan terraced gardens and it overlooks the River Wye.

? PEAK RAIL is a steam railway that is based at Rowsley South station. There are services from that station to Matlock.

? STANTON MOOR: This is a scenic area that features many Bronze Age relics and burial mounds overlooking Stanton in Peak and the Wye and Derwent valleys. You can see the Nine Ladies Stone Circle there.
