There is plenty of choice for golfers in the area. East Lothian is known as Edinburgh's Golf Coast with 22 courses in the area. In the area is the oldest playing golf course in the world at Musselburgh Links which hosted the Open Championship 6 times between 1884 and 1889.
The closest golf course to Thurston Manor, The Dunbar East Links course, was designed around 1850 and is a challenging course that has hosted all the major Scottish Championships.

? Dunbar Leisure Pool is a great place to bring your family. They have waves, sprays and a bubble bed as well as a big yellow flume that your children will love. They also have a 6 lane pool that you can swim in.
? John Muir Country Park is a lovely place to visit. Located in nearby Dunbar they include some of the most magnificent East Lothian coastline, grasslands, salt marsh and woodland. They also offer pony rides and wildlife trails and feature great picnic spots.
?East Links Family Park is a great for a family day out. They are located in Dunbar and feature a train safari, pony rides, go-karts, a giant maze, trampolines and soft play areas for younger children. It is easy to spend an entire day at the park. Their farm has plenty of animals to see. They have a great café that serves hot and cold snacks. They have picnic areas available for those that want to bring their own food to the park.
? The Scottish Seabird Centre is a wonderful attraction that overlooks the sea at North Berwick. It is a 5 Star, multi-award winning family attraction that is set about a half an hour from Thurston Manor. They are open all year round for guests to visit. They have an exciting discovery centre that features live cameras to view puffins, gannets, seals and more. They have a kids play zone that has a programme of workshops and activities for both children and adults to enjoy. Visitors can also browse their well-stocked gift shop.
? Prestongrange Museum at Prestonpans is a great place to take your children. They have games, toys and trails that will keep them entertained as they learn about the story of Scotland's Industrial Revolution. You can take audio tours of the museum and visit the Beam Engine and Power House. They have a programme of special events that everyone can enjoy. You can even bring your dog along to the museum. You can have a picnic here or you can eat at their small café.
? The Museum of Flight at East Fortune is another great attraction. It occupies the site of a former RAF airfield and features many interesting aircraft including the world famous Concorde.
