Appleacre Park

Appleacre Park is located at the southern end of the village of Fowlmere and set in 3 acres of orchard land. This small, pleasant tourist site offers all the facilities for a comfortable stay including:

• Pitches for caravans and awnings

• Spaces for motor caravans and tents

• Showers & Toilets

• Washing up facilities

• Electric hook-up points (metered)

Appleacre also includes a small residential park with homes for the retired and semi-retired.

Appleacre Park is near the village pub and the Chequers and Swan restaurants. You can reach them within walking distance. There is a stop alongside the park that provides regular bus services to Cambridge and neighbouring villages.

The park’s residents are also welcome to walk across the road and visit Fowlmere Sports and Social Club. There you can use the children’s play facilities outside or just relax inside with a drink in comfort in their licensed bar.

RALLY FIELD

Appleacre Park offers a 2 acre grass meadow adjacent to the park for rallies. It is a level and well-drained field. The grass is cut regularly throughout the growing season. It is ideal for caravan rallies in the summer and autumn. They welcome enquiries from registered rally clubs.

IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM – DUXFORD

The Imperial War Museum is set within the spacious grounds of the famous former First and Second World War airfield. The museum still retains its wartime atmosphere and many of the aeroplanes still fly. You might even see one take to the air during your visit to the museum.

Annually hundreds of thousands of visitors come to Duxford to see over 200 aircraft including biplanes, Spitfires and Gulf War jets in addition to tanks, military vehicles and boats.

They have an original 1917 Belfast hangar that hosts the Battle of Britain exhibition. It contrasts dramatically with the American Air Museum which is an outstanding example of contemporary British architecture. They have a unique collection of historic American combat aircraft including the B-17 Flying Fortress and the huge B-52 bomber. Many of them are suspended from the ceiling as if in flight.

RSPB FOWLMERE NATURE RESERVE

From Appleacre a short drive or a pleasant walk alongside open fields and past Manor Farm will take you to Fowlmere Nature Reserve. At the site the reed-beds and pools are fed by natural chalk springs with a stream running through the reserve.

There you can see special birds including kingfishers, water rails and 9 species of warblers including sedge warblers, reed warblers and grasshopper warblers. In the winter you can see starlings, thrushes and buntings, including corn buntings. Their nature trail is partly wheelchair and pushchair accessible as are 2 of their 3 hides.

CAMBRIDGE

This famous university city always has something to see and do. You can visit historic and contemporary buildings, world-renowned museums, great theatre and live music. The city is a family friendly place that has a host of intriguing attractions that will keep everyone entertained. They also host many exciting festivals throughout the year.
