Camping & Caravanning

Situated in glorious upland Mid Wales, The Mid Wales Bunkhouse, Tipi and Camping is a great holiday location. They are set midway between Rhayader and Llanidloes near the village of Pant-Y-Dwr at Woodhouse Farm.

They offer accommodation all year round for groups and individuals in their warm and comfortable bunkhouse. Their Certificated Site is available for members of the Camping and Caravanning Club or those that wish to join the club on arrival. They also have an 18 foot traditional western style tipi available during the summer months that can sleep up to 8 people.

Mid Wales Bunkhouse, Tipi and Camping is ideally situated for cycling and walking with Glyndwr's Way, the Wye Valley Walk and Lon Las Cymru all almost on our doorstep. Their location right in the middle of Wales makes them a great stopping point for trans Cambrian routes in all four directions. The local area also has many circular routes that make ideal day and half day outings. You are bound to see some Red Kites on these routes.

More and more people are becoming interested in bird watching. The local area has a very diverse selection of birds and has recently had an RSPB survey carried out. Some species of birds that live in the area include the tawny owl, sand martin, linnet, curlew, moorhen and red kites.

The site has access to the River Marteg which is a tributary of the Wye, from their old pasture meadow. The river should be of great interest to plant lovers and those that are lucky might even see an otter.

They established their farm as a private nature reserve under the auspices of the Radnorshire Wildlife Trust. Their goal has been to create a truly natural habitat.

The site is still run as a small farm. They keep an assortment of animals, cattle, sheep, pigs, ponies, chickens and ducks. Guests are welcome to come with the owners at feeding time to experience the animals at close quarters. All of the animals are docile which makes this activity especially popular with families with children. You may even get to see some lambs or newly hatched chicks depending on the time of year that you stay at the site.

Guests can always just sit and do nothing except enjoy the site's peace and quiet if they wish.

Mid Wales Bunkhouse, Tipi and Camping has a "Member Recommended� site that is on level, well-drained grass in a very secluded location with "hideaway� status. This area features 5 individual pitches, each which has full electric hook-up facilities. Every pitch is large and has plenty of space for modern family tents. There is a chemical toilet disposal point available as well as a fresh water supply. The site is currently constructing toilets and showers. They advise that until this is finished that guests bring their own chemical toilet. They do have a limited number of toilets and tents that are available for loan.

They try to keep the site open throughout the year but you must check in advance if you are planning on visiting outside of the main season.

There is a field available for tents adjacent to the member recommended area. This field can also accommodate rallies and other events during the summer months. Their tipis are also located in this field and they can make a perfect focal point for group events.
