Dornafield Farm is a caravan park that caters for families. It is set on a 14th century farmhouse that was once besieged by irate Roundheads during the Civil War. It forms the focal point of the site. All the surrounding buildings have been adapted for the use of guests. They still retain their characteristic Devonshire charm, which creates a warm and happy holiday atmosphere.
The park is set up into 3 different areas. The Orchard is a small and cosy area that is set up for tents. This adjoins the Buttermeadow, which is the site’s award winning development. They also have their most recent addition, Blackrock Copse, which features state of the art facilities.
They do not have any residential or letting caravans on their site. The site does not have its own clubhouse or bar, but they can direct guests toward a number of local, historic village inns that lie within a short walk.
Guests can stay at Dornafield throughout the seasons. During the spring, guests can witness carpets of wild daffodils and primroses bloom as the violets sprinkle the hedges and old stone walls. During summer, bluebells cover Blackrock Copse and the Devon banks are filled with a palette of pink, white and blue. In autumn it is haymaking time, and the fields neighbouring the site turn from green to gold. During the middle of summer, the park is full of flowers and buzzards wheel overhead. Those who are able to wait until late autumn will see the beautiful colours of the leaves on the oak, beech, ash and maple trees, and they will see the squirrels and badgers enjoying the abundance of the Devon countryside.
The park is set in a peaceful valley that is surrounded by Devon farmland. Within easy reach are the beaches and amenities of Torbay and the English Riviera. Guests can also enjoy the rugged beauty of Dartmoor and the picturesque coastal villages of the South Hams. A short drive will take guests to the historic cities of Plymouth, Exeter and Totnes. The park is best suited for families. There will always be a member of the Dewhirst family on hand to give help, local advice and to ensure that everyone’s holiday runs smoothly.
