Solway View Holidays
Solway View Holidays is set within a 330 acre working farm. The site has stunning views over the estuary of the River Dee and into the Solway Firth. They offer an ideal destination for individuals, families and groups for their holidays or short breaks.
The coastal farmland is easily accessed through Solway View Holidays farm trail. You can walk the adjoining woodland with its ever changing colour scheme and you may even see some roe deer. Along the way you can enjoy the tranquillity of the little secluded bays.
Solway View Holidays is great for those who are interested in outdoor pursuits and activities and for those who simply want to relax.
CAMPING AND CARAVANNING
Solway View's campsite is Camping and Caravanning Site Certificated. It is an ideal small site for a quiet break. The site allows up to 5 vans and has room for tents.
Each of their pitches is very spacious. Each caravan pitch has a picnic bench and a brick barbeque area. They allow 4 pitches with electric hook-ups, one of which is hard standing. The camping pitches are located in a quiet area and include a campfire area.
They have clean showers and WC Facilities They have one WC and shower facility that has disabled access. The park allows well behaved pets and dogs for free. There is a maximum of 2 pets per pitch.
SOLWAY VIEW WIGWAMS
There are 3 large Wooden Wigwams for hire. In April 2012 they added 2 new Large En-Suite Wigwams. Each of the wigwams sleeps up to 5 people. They are like little wooden tents that come with the comforts of home. They include heating, lights and some cooking facilities.
The Wigwams are a fantastic way to enjoy the great outdoors. They are available all year round. The Wigwams are named after a few of the Hills in Dumfries & Galloway: Merrick, Cairnsmore & Bengairn. You can even see Bengairn from the door. The site's new Wigwams are named after the local hills Screel & Criffel.
The Wigwams are lockable. They have raised bed platforms and there are very comfortable mattresses provided. The only things you need to bring are your sleeping bags, pillows and cooking supplies.
The nearest town is Kirkcudbright which features a great selection of shops and supermarkets for all of your camping cooking. You can also eat out there as they have plenty of good food establishments and takeaways. There is a good taxi service from the town as well.
OUT AND ABOUT
Solway View is an ideal base to discover and enjoy the countryside, local activities, quaint villages and towns.
The organic farm Cream O' Galloway is nearby. They have a great outside play and adventure area and an inside play barn. They cater to children of all ages. They offer great ice cream and a wide selection of meals and snacks. They also offer bike hire.
You can enjoy action and adventure there with adrenaline pumping slides, pedal karts, bikes, unique woodland adventure playground and indoor play areas.
You can also choose to explore the nature trails, go wildlife spotting in their hide or enjoy one of their special wildlife events. They offer a designated dog walk where you dog can run free. Walkers with dogs under control are welcome on the green and purple waymarked nature trails.
Cream O' Galloway has events taking place every day and has many special events taht run at particular times of the year. Meet the Lambs is in the spring and Pond Dipping is in the summer. Their most popular events are the Farm Tour and the Ice Cream Experience, which are available every day they are open.
The area is great for salmon, trout, course and sea fishing. Solway View is near to Ross Bay and Brighouse Bay, both of which are good for shore fishing. You can dig your own bait.
The area of Dumfries & Galloway has some of Scotland's least populated but wonderful walking. You can explore the stunning coastline, extensive forests and rugged hills as well as some charming towns and villages. You can enjoy strolls along the Solway Coast to the Merrick which is an ever popular hill ascent above Loch Trool.
