Foxholes Castle Camping
Conveniently situated on Shropshire Way, Foxholes Castle Camping is a relaxed and family-run campsite located on a 28 acre smallholding.
Surrounding the campsite are glorious views of South West Shropshire's beautiful hill country. The site is connected with Bishop's Castle and is also within easy reach of the Offa's Dyke long distance footpath.
The campsite has a 10 acre area that is separated into 4 fields. There are different areas for touring caravans, motor homes and tents. All pitches are soft-standing. No electric hook-ups are available for any of the pitches. There are around 100 pitches available at a time.
The top field only allows tents and has the feeling of a hilltop Iron Age Fort.
There is also a slightly more sheltered half-acre field available for tents as well.
The touring field is reserved for caravans and campervans.
Lastly, there is a large meadow that only has a strip around the outside mown that is for camping.
There is also a new bunkhouse for walkers and long-distance cyclists. The comfortable beds of the bunkhouse are able to sleep six.
The campsite features modern facilities, including a new toilet block that has 6 solar power heated showers and 3 wet rooms great for cleaning the kids. There are 10 toilets on-site. Rain water is used for flushing the toilet. The facility also includes 3 separate wet rooms, each with a loo. There are disabled facilities available.
Chemical toilet disposal points are available.
The site's owners Chris and Wendy are trying to maintain an eco-friendly site and because of this they expect visitors to make use of its large recycling area.
The campsite does not have an on-site shop you can get your provisions from nearby Bishop's Castle. There is a freezer available for campers to put their ice packs in. You can purchase washing machine drums on legs for your campfires. A bag of logs cost £3.
The site does not have a designated children's play area but there is plenty of room for children to play. The site's top field is great for kite-flying.
Foxholes Castle Camping is ideal for families, couples, walkers, cyclists and photographers. A five minute walk takes you to Bishop's Castle which offers a variety of interesting shops, a leisure centre, a swimming pool, historic buildings, fascinating museums, two microbreweries and plenty of good places to eat.
Several long distance footpaths are near the site. Shropshire Way runs right through the site and offers the county's finest scenery.
Foxholes Castle Camping has the best view of hills around. There are the foothills of the Cambrian mountain range, the famous bulk of the Long Mynd, Stiperstones and many more bumps, knolls, and mounds nearby.
The site has also attracted a large variety of birds. The camping area is full of goldfinches. Butterflies are also prominent on the site.
