OUT AND ABOUT
The park is in a great position to explore the special places the Lizard peninsular has to offer. Fantastic beaches, wonderful walks, scrumptious food, scenic drives through sleepy villages and wooded valleys.
Trot off on horseback across the Goonhilly Downs or to the beach for a canter in the sea. Or while away a day in the idylic gardens that slope down to the river.
Flambards Leisure Park is on the edge of Helston as is the Seal Sanctuary. Helford river is acroos the peninsular and you can cross on the ferry to visit the wonderful gardens that slope down to the shores. 15 miles away you have St Michaels mount and Penzance. In the other direction there is Falmouth with is lively harbour and Maritime museum. Truro is one hours drive away but well worth a visit.
Explore the creeks that branch off the Helford river and used to be the haunt of smugglers -If history is your thing there are iron age settlements, barrows and of course the tin mines to visit. This area is known as 'The Menage' in Cornish this means 'Land of the Saints', so paths dotted with Celtic crosses where early christian pilgrims walked criss cross the peninsular. Remains of little chapels can often be found in the undergrowth. Ironage settlements and burial mounds are dotted all over the Lizard and of course theres the tin mines to visit and learn about Cornwalls industrial past.
