Smithy Park

The Bestparks group is a small family-run collection of caravan holiday home and touring parks that are set in the lovely countryside of Herefordshire, Shropshire and Mid Wales. Smithy Park is one of these parks.

Smithy Park is set in 5 acres of well-maintained surroundings. The park has a garden-like appearance. Smithy Park’s ground are neat and full of mature trees and shrubs that lead down to the River Severn.

Guest can enjoy free fishing on the River Severn which is alongside the park. You can also purchase day, weekly and season tickets to fish 2 miles upstream or on the adjoining Shropshire Union Canal. Guests can enjoy fast water fishing which includes trout and salmon and there are grayling, chubb and other coarse fish.

The park has a small children’s play area that has swings, slides and a climbing frame for children to enjoy.

Smithy Park’s all-service touring pitches are nestled alongside the River Mule and the River Severn. They are safely fenced off. Every concrete pitch has a 16 amp electrical hook-up, a TV hook-up with some satellite channels, waster, waste water and sewerage connections. There is also a small light for guests’ convenience. There are also the usual toilet and laundry facilities.

The local area is full of a wonderfully varied countryside that is a pleasure to look at and which is a paradise to roam. Smithy Park has good access to many local footpaths which is ideal for dog owners.

The Montgomeryshire Canal (part of the Severn Way) is right on the doorstep with canal boats further upstream.

Only a few minutes walk away is the village of Abermule, where you can get your newspapers and groceries from the village shop, or a meal or drink at one of the two village pubs. Local community amenities include a bowling green and tennis courts, and there are also three golf courses nearby.

Newtown is just 5 minutes in the car or a regular bus journey from the park entrance. Supermarkets, The Bear Mall, Traditional Market Hall, boutiques and curio shops can serve your practical needs or provide some retail therapy. The Robert Owen museum, Oriel Gallery or Theatre Hafren should cater for your cultural needs.

Welshpool is another bustling market town, with everything from specialist shops to Farmers Markets. There’s a steam railway, canal cruises and the famous Powis Castle nearby.

Also convenient for the market towns of Llanidloes, Welshpool and Montgomery, and the historic towns of Machynlleth and Ludlow, with plenty of attractions, castles, reservoirs and beautiful views on the way!

You can reach the Welsh coast in less than hour at either Aberystwyth, Aberdovey or Borth while seeing some magnificent scenery en route.

Smithy Park has convenient access to the North and the Midlands which makes a perfect place to get away from it all.
