Heathfield Farm Camping is a camping site that is great for a peaceful holiday. It is located in the West Wight, which has some of the Island’s most spectacular scenery. On clear days the views from the National Trust’s Tennyson Down are stunning. Only 2 miles away is the Needles and Alum Bay which is famous for its coloured sands. The historic harbour town of Yarmouth is nearby and is ideal for sailing enthusiasts.
Half of the Isle of Wight has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and much of the seashore is a Heritage Coast. You can enjoy 67 miles of spectacularly varied coastline that offers chalk and sandstone cliffs, rocky coves and sandy beaches. There are over 500 miles of well signposted footpaths and many miles of rural cycle track making the Island a walker’s paradise.
The Island has been a retreat for many famous people including Queen Victoria at Osborne House and Keats at Bonchurch. Poet Laureate Lord Tennyson and Victorian Photographer Julia Margaret Camere were both attracted by Freshwater Bay.
Just a short walk from the site is the safe and sandy beach of Colwell and the adjoining bay of Totland. While these 2 beaches appeal to sunseekers and those interested in building sandcastles or exploring rock pools, the nearby beaches of Compton and Brook are more ideal for surfing and fossil hunting.
Heathfield Farm Camping has for many years been a winner of the prestigious David Bellamy Gold Award for conservation and has also achieved Green Island Gold Award status.
The site offers 9 acres of unspoilt countryside on the site of a non-working farm. They have planted indigenous trees and shrub to create a haven for birds and small mammals. You can catch a glimpse of the lovely red squirrels.
Heathfield Farm Camping is open and level and there is easy access to the site’s 60 generously spaced marked pitches. 40 of the pitches of have electric hook-ups. Most pitches are sheltered by trees and hedgerows. They also feature a wild flower meadow that has plenty of space to exercise dogs. There is a separate playing field that is ideal for ball games and features barbecue areas with picnic tables.
Nearby you can enjoy fishing, golf, horse riding, sailing and other water sports. Heathfield Farm Camping is a great base for exploring the surrounding countryside on foot or by bike. There is an information board with a map of colour coded walks that will help you decide on your route.
They feature modern amenity buildings that have showers, toilets, separate wash cubicles, hair dryers and shaver points. There is a large separate wheelchair accessible shower and toilet room on-site.
There is a laundry room that has a coin-operated washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing facilities. They also have a clothes washing sink. The dishwashing area has a wheelchair accessible sink and a separate food preparation sink.
The site’s facilities are maintained to a very high standard of cleanliness.
They sell Camping Gaz and have a freezer pack service that you can use in return for a small donation to their “Heathfield Camping Tree Plantation Fund”.
There is frequent bus service that links all parts of the Island which departs near to the site.
