Castlerigg Hall Caravan and Camping Park

Castlerigg Hall Caravan and Camping Park is a great base for exploring Lakeland or just to relax and enjoy the area's wonderful mountain setting. The park is located just 1½ miles from Keswick Town Centre.

The park is set at an elevated position in a peaceful area that is just outside Keswick. From the site you can see spectacular panoramic views of Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake which are set against a lovely backdrop of the surrounding fells.

TOURING CARAVANS/MOTORHOMES

Castlerigg's touring caravans and motor homes are on hard standings pitches that all feature 10 amp electrical hook-ups. A majority of the pitches also have separate water and drainage facilities available. You will require strong steel pegs for your awnings which you can purchase in the park's shop. The pitches are set on level terraces and a few of them feature dramatic lake and mountain views. The site does not offer seasonal pitches.

CAMPING

The camping area is for families and couples only. Castlerigg's campground is sheltered and features both sloping and level areas. Some areas of the field have views but not all of them do. You can park your cars near your tent. The site does not have any electric hook-up points for campers. They do not take advanced reservations for camping.

Facilities include the "Camper's Kitchen" which is an indoor heated amenity where guests can prepare their food. It has twin hobs and a microwave that take 50p tokens and toasters and a kettle that are free for use. This area also has seating, washing up basins and a small sun terrace.

CAMPING PODS

Castlerigg features new camping pods which create a fun way to go camping.

They consist of a small timber hut that has a wraparound roof. They are extremely well insulated with sheep's wool in the walls and they have a special foil layer under the tiles that helps to keep summer temperatures at bearable levels. There is plenty of head height for guests and plenty of light that comes from their double glazed lockable French doors. These doors and a small high rear window help to provide a good through draft. They also feature an electric socket and lighting. Camping pods are an upgraded version of a tent.

Camping pods afford the best parts of camping without the disadvantages. You will still be close to nature and feel a sense of adventure but you won't have to worry about the threat of being savaged by the weather. When you stay in a camping pod you bring all of your camping equipment except your tent.

CARAVAN HOLIDAY HOME HIRE

Castlerigg has two grades of serviced holiday carvans available for hire. They provide cooking utensils but you must bring your own bed linen and towels.

Here are a couple of your choices:

Helvellyn Range: This area features private parking, shower, toilet, fridge, microwave oven, electric panel heaters to all the bedrooms and gas fire in the living room and small balcony.

Scafell: This is the site's premier range. It comes with the same amenities as Helvellyn Range but additionally has central heating, double glazing, large flat screen TV with DVD player, large balcony and a fridge freezer.

The park is located in an excellent position in the heart of the wonderful Lakeland countryside. There are a number of scenic walks from the park that have stunning views. Nearby is the interesting Castlerigg Stone Circle that is thought to date back around 4,000 years.

There are plenty activities to enjoy nearby including climbing, golfing, pony trekking, fishing and a variety of water sports. Those who are less energetic might enjoy Keswick which has a choice of museums, leisure pool, theatre, cinema, relaxing parks and gardens and plenty of interesting shops.

Keswick and the surrounding villages have a wide variety of restaurants, inn and cafes. You can try local specialities like Cumberland sausage, Windermere char, Borrowdale tea bread and Grasmere gingerbread.

It doesn't matter which direction you travel from Keswick, you will find amazing countryside and tons of interesting places to visit including Lake Windermere and Hadrian's Wall.
