Camping in France
Over the course of the summer France is possibly the most popular place for Europe's tourists to spend their holidays. France is blessed with fantastic camping for all types of people and it is generally at a price that everyone can afford. From Normandy and Brittany in the North, to the Dordogne, Provance and the Mediterranean and Atlantic coast in the south. There is something for everyone and anyone looking to go camping or caravanning.
Here at Camping & Caravanning UK we've picked out a few great places to head to if you're planning your French camping trip this summer.
Starting in the North:
Brittany with it's own language is a popular place to go camping in summer but doesn't attract the same crowds as other places in France, such as the Mediterranean coast. Brittany stretches from St-Malo, a major port in the North-East, across to Brest and Quimper in the West and down to Lorient and Vans in the South.
It has some fantastic coastline and sea that is warm enough to swim in during the summer. This leads to some excellent camping as many campsites are situated on or near some fantastic beaches.
Place to see: Quimper
Quimper is situated where the rivers Odet and Steir meet, providing a lovely setting for the city as well as the perfect excuse to take a trip on the river.
The settlement on this site has been around for over two thousand years and the city itself emerged since the fabulous gothic cathedral of St. Corentin was started in the 13th Century. This is the main focus of the old town which is enjoyable to spend a day wandering round the narrow streets, poking in the little shops and cafes that tuck themselves into the centuries old buildings.
