The local area is a haven for wildlife where guests can see herds of deer roaming the landscape and otters living in their natural habitat. There are several major rivers in the area including the Esk, Annan, Nith, Ken, Dee and Cree. Fishermen will be pleased to know that all of these rivers are notable for salmon and trout fishing and they are all near to the site.

Creetown Gem Rock Museum is an interesting and dazzling museum that has one of the most comprehensive collections of gems and minerals. It has taken them over 50 years to assemble such an impressive collection. There visitors can also explore the atmospheric Gemstone Cave and watch gemstones being polished in the museum’s workshop.
The local area is a paradise for nature lovers and outdoor folk. There are nature sties, forest trails, sailing centres, scenic walks and rambles all around the area. There are many craft and gift shops nearby where you can purchase something to remind you of your excellent holiday.
There are several pubs in the local area that play live traditional music. Both the Galloway and the Portpatrick Folk Festivals are hosted in the area. There are many folk clubs that meet regularly in Dalbeattie and Stranraer. The nearby town of Creetown holds its famous Country Music Festival in the middle of September every year. The Wickerman Festival at Dundrennan in July is perfect for fans of pop music. The region has many galas that usually feature a jazz band.
