Our new Tavistock Club Site lies on the west side of Dartmoor National Park and enjoys fabulous views over the moor. You can leave the car behind and explore the moorland paths, lanes and rivers on foot.
• Tavistock town hosts a daily Pannier Market selling local food, plants and many collectors’ items.
• Princetown is home to Dartmoor Prison and its intriguing Museum.
• The village of Lydford to the north has a Norman Castle. Find out how the Tinners Parliament imprisoned tin miners.
• Lydford Gorge is the deepest gorge in south west England, stretching a mile and a half from the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool to the 100ft White Lady Waterfall.
• The Granite Way is a mostly traffic-free, 11-mile cycle and walk way from Okehampton to Lydford – part of the National Cycle Network.
• Dartmoor National Park has a beautiful moorland landscape with wooded valleys and wind-swept Tors. Families can try ‘letterboxing’ – a form of orienteering.
• The Finch Foundry Museum shows how trades developed to support local industry. It is home to the mill leat and launder.
• Horse-riding is available from the award-winning Cholwell Riding Stables.
• Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre houses the National Fairground Collection tracing 200 years of fun at the fair.
• Sir Francis Drake’s home of Buckland Abbey is one of several National Trust properties in the area.
• The towns and cities of Plymouth, Barnstaple and Exeter are accessible by car or bus.
