Located over 1000 feet above sea level at the junction of Eaton, Alsop and Biggin Dales, Rivendale is ideal for mountain biking, rambling and walking from trails and cycle ways leading directly from our site. The Tissington Trail – just 100 metres from our site entrance provides access to the “Trails Triangle” formed with the High Peak Trail and cycle way around Carsington Reservoir. Footpaths from Rivendale lead into the dramatic limestone scenery of the upper reaches of Dove Dale – about 11/2 miles away.
The Peak District offers more than just outdoor activities however, with cultural and historic sites as diverse as Chatsworth, Alton Towers, Buxton Opera house, National Tram Museum, Richard Arkwright’s Mills within the Derwent Valley World Heritage site, Gulliver’s Kingdom, a variety of caves
and caverns, stately homes and castles, to name a few. Not to mention the local arts festivals, well dressings, flower show, game fair and other events at Chatsworth; even if it rains there is always something to do.
CARAVANS, MOTORHOMES, RV'S & TRAILER TENTS
Caravans and motorhomes benefit from a choice of pitch surfaces within a sheltered natural sun trap. All hard-standing or hard-standing with grass pitches are available, most having hedges at either side to provide greater privacy and shelter for wildlife. Caravan and motorhome pitches are located in the main pitching area on individual loop roads handy for the under-floor heated shower building, laundrette and children’s play area.
All caravan and motorhome pitches have 16 amp electrical hook-ups, some additionally have a fresh water supply and may also have a waste water disposal drain.
CAMPING
“Armchair” campers will prefer the grass pitches within the main pitching area particularly early season or in autumn due to their sheltered location, 16 amp power supplies and proximity to the underfloor-heated main amenity building. Most pitches are approximately 9 metres wide x 13m long – permitting most tents to be accommodated. Those with particularly large tents should make their needs known when booking so that one of the large pitches may be allocated. Barbeques that are enclosed and prevent hot ash falling onto the ground are permitted, but due to the closer proximity to neighbouring tents, fire pits are not permitted in the main pitching area.
Guests who prefer a more traditional camping experience without power, perhaps with a campfire in a metal fire pit, will prefer one of the “wild camping” pitches or the wild flower meadow where clients can pick their spot to camp with toilets and showers in the new unisex timber shower building.
CAMPING PODS AND YURTS
Camping Pods provide a warm, hassle- free camping experience ideal for guests touring on bikes, arriving on foot or those who simply hate the thought of wrestling a wet muddy tent in and out of the car. Equipped with electric heaters, light and successfully used by clients in temperatures down to -18 last year! Family pods accommodate up to 5 adults, classic (original pods) 2 adults and 2 children. We also offer canvas and timber Yurts, some equipped with wood-burning stoves, which can accommodate either 2 adults and one or 2 small children or up to 6 adults. The Yurts and Pods move around site with the season and are found around the environmental pond in winter or on the hillside overlooking Eaton Dale in summer.
