Amidst some of Derbyshire's most beautiful scenery, this small secluded camp site enjoys panoramic views towards Riber Castle from its peaceful position.
Packhorse Farm is situated ½ mile out of Tansley village and is an excellent base from which to explore the Peak District. It is only 2½ miles from Matlock town centre and a 20 minute car ride from Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall.
Walking, cycling and horse-riding are available locally. Tansley village has 3 public houses, all of which accept children.
Our camp site is set within 50 acres on level, well maintained ground and has room for up to 50 tent pitches. Some pitches have electric hook-ups.
Fantastic new facilities for campers including seven showers, six toilets and seperate wash cubicles for privacy. Electric sockets for hair straighteners and mobile phone charging. Disabled and baby changing facilities also available.
The site is open from 1st March to 31st October.

Cuckoostone walk is a 3.5 mile walk from the farm and is a proper way marked route. A council produced leaflet gives full details including historic information about Matlock Moor and the Lumsdale Valley. It comes complete with map and provides a good half days free entertainment. Leaflet available FREE OF CHARGE from the reception.
For a car parking fee of £2.00 per day you can park right outside Chatsworth House and use their facilities such as toilets and baby changing, self service restaurant and their take away shop. Very useful for an impromptu picnic serving delicious homemade pasties and scones for a wonderful cream tea.
There are acres to explore in Chatsworth Country Park without paying any entrance fees. Distance from the farm 4 miles.
The High Peak Cycling trail near Middleton-by-Wirksworth provides traffic free cycling and walking (cycle hire available). Again facilities such as toilets and picnic tables provided free of charge for visitors The High Peak Trail is connected to the Tissington Trail for a further 30 miles of beautiful limestone scenery. Distance from the farm 5 miles.
Hall Leys Park situated in Matlock Town centre has recently had 2 million pounds of Lottery money spent on it providing a carefree day for families wanting low cost entertainment. The beautiful shallow paddling pool complete with fountains is a no cost attraction together with a skateboarding area. For a nominal cost there is also pitch and putt, motor boats on a small lake and tennis courts. There is plenty of seating in a beautiful formal garden and plenty of space for football and cricket. Distance from the farm 2.5 miles.
Matlock Bath only 3 miles away provides a lovely walk along the River Derwent, circular route includes crossing the two bridges and a small park and formal garden area. Beautiful ponds holding very large cold water fish and band stand area are all part of the Derwent Gardens. All free of charge, toilets and tourist information also available close by.
