Minnows Caravan Park is set in a charmingly intimate location, bordered by the Grand Western Canal Country Park and with scenic countryside views. The caravan park lies in Mid Devon, the heart of Devon, and has the delightful quality of a hidden gem that has been forgotten by the bustling world. It is centrally placed however, allowing easy access to the many attractions available in this popular holiday county.
Set in five and a half acres, and just a short stroll from the village of Sampford Peverell, Minnows offers 59 landscaped pitches all of which are all-weather hardstandings with 16 amp electric hook-up - ideal for motor vans, and late and early season touring. 12 of the all weather pitches are full service pitches. American RV's are welcome up to 36'.
The park is divided into 3 pitching areas. “The Meadow“ area has 13 pitches arranged around the playground where children can play safely and make friends.
The modern heated toilet, shower and utility block has constant hot water for which there is no additional charge. There is a covered washing-up and vegetable preparation room and the laundrette is equipped with a modern commercial front-loading washing machine and tumble dryer, a hand-washing sink and spin dryer. An ironing board and free electric points are provided for you to use with your own iron. Wi-Fi is available.
The on-site tourist information centre carries a wide range of information on walks, cycle routes, fishing and a host of local attractions, pubs and places to eat.
Minnows is conveniently located in open countryside just ¾ mile from Junction 27 of the M5. With easy road access, the surfing beaches of the North Coast, the sheltered South Coast resorts, Exmoor and Dartmoor, the Somerset Levels and Blackdown Hills, are all within easy reach by car.
Alternatively, why not abandon the car and enjoy the walks and cycle routes from the site. The Grand Western Canal is just the other side of the hedge and the park has its own access gate directly onto the towpath. The Grand Western Canal provides miles of level walking through the Mid Devon countryside and abounds with wild flowers and bird life. Seven miles west to Tiverton or 5 miles east to the end of the navigable section on the Devon border, the walk continues 12 miles into Somerset following the course of the canal and tracing its history all the way to Taunton where it once connected to the Taunton and Bridgewater Canal.
For cyclists, the canal towpath is part of The West Country Cycle Way (Sustrans National Cycle Route) – safe off road cycling for all the family. For the more adventurous try the circular routes from the canal into the Mid Devon countryside and villages, including the Exe Valley, Lowman Valley, Culm Valley and Blackdown Hills. All accessable by bicycle from the site.
If all that sounds too energetic, how about an evening stroll to the pub for a drink and a meal. The village is just 15 minutes walk along the towpath with 2 pubs. The village also has a post office, an excellent farm shop, tennis courts, a golf driving range and short golf course. Buses run from the village to Tiverton every hour.
Fishermen will enjoy the excellent coarse fishing on the canal, famous for its Tench and there are also many good fishing lakes and ponds close by not to mention fly fishing on the River Exe.
The canal also offers a safe environment for family canoeing and boating with our own landing stage plus a launching slip nearby for trailed boats. Fishing and boating permits can be obtained from the park Reception Office.
