Middle Ninfa Farm is one of the UK’s leading small campsites and is reached by a steep winding tarmaced road from Llanfoist, crossing the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal which once served the iron works of Clydach Gorge and Pwll Ddu. The 23 acre farm lies in a historic and beautiful landscape, within the Brecon Beacons National Park on the edge of the Blaenavon Industrial Landscape World Heritage Site.
The small unspoilt campsite is rated number three in the UK by the Tiny Campsite Guide. The site is also featured in the Guardian newspaper’s guide to the best 100 camping sites (2011).
In August 2011 we commissioned a second timber clad ablution block with solar warm water shower and solar lighting on a level with the main site terrace. There is also available a sauna for campers to hire.
We have four small sites away from the main camping area and ablutions, each of which is only ever booked to a single group. All have a reasonably level grassy terrace and fireplace.
This is excellent walking country and there are fine views over the Usk Valley of the Skirrid and rural Monmouthshire. The upper third of the land, which abuts the Woodland Trust owned Punchbowl, has ben planted to broadleaf woodland. In May this is a sea of bluebells. There is also an acre of withy beds, orchards, vegetable garden, grazing for horses and sheep, ducks, bees and a tennis/croquet court.
We also run a series of three day workshops during which you will learn how to build a traditional coracle or willow structure (see our website for details).
Provisions are available from us or other local producers and fair trade outlets which are plentiful in the county.
There are a number of excellent walks from the campsite and also river swimming.
The area is rich in heritage including castles, ruined abbeys, ancient iron works, museums and the fantastic underground tours of Big Pit coalmine in nearby Blaenavon. Also a great range of adventure activities from horseriding, wall climbing, canyoning to gliding, canoeing, rafting, quadbiking- all local.
Festivals almost every weekend in Abergavenny and nearby market towns and villages including the nationally famous Abergavenny Food Festival, Welsh Cycling festival, Green Man Festival [Crickhowell], Green Gathering [Chepstow], Brecon Jazz Festival, Steam Fair, Cider and Perry Festival, Walking Festivals and many more.
BUNKHOUSE
Middle Ninfa bunkhouse provides comfortable self catering accommodation for up to six people. The rustic charm of the old stone building has been maintained while ensuring modern comforts. There is also a sauna for the use of guests in the adjoining building.
