Dartmoor Country Holidays, also known as Magpie Leisure Park, has been developed under the supervision of the Bidder family for over 80 years. The Park lies in a wonderful position on the western edge of the Dartmoor National Park — an area of great natural beauty.
We pride ourselves on the number of customers who come back to us year after year.
There are great facilities available for touring caravans and tents. There is a well kept toilet block as well as laundry facilities. The reception on the park which is attended most of the day will assist you to make your holiday a happy one!
CAMPING IN THE MEADOWS
Camping in the Meadows allows you to be in your own little paradise but just a few hundred yards away from the main site. Caravans and tents are located around the edge of the 'purpose built' field with plenty of room for you to stretch your legs in the middle of the area.
TOURING FACILITIES
The small select touring park of 30 pitches is bordered by the south bank of the river Walkam.Surrounded by trees and greenery the area is flat , level and grassy.
HOLIDAY LODGES FOR HIRE
There is a choice of 4 Scandinavian wooden lodges to choose from when you stay at Dartmoor Country Holidays, accommodating from 2 to 7 persons. All lodges are constructed and finished to a high standard and were designed personally by the Bidder family to meet the needs of families and couples.
On one side of the park lie the Cedar and Cedar Plus lodges, overlooking the River Walkham and neighbouring fields, which can accommodate 4 and 6 persons respectively. Just across the park lie 2 genuine Finnish log houses nestling into the bank and trees, namely the Pine and IKI lodges. Pine accommodates 2 persons, ideal for a couple, with IKI accommodating 7 persons so that all the family and even the grandparents can holiday together.
All our lodges are purpose-built and are carefully sited on the Park to blend with the natural beauty of the surroundings.
OUT AND ABOUT
There are many varied and interesting walks from the Park. Fishing is available in the River Walkham, horse-riding nearby and 2 Golf courses just 2 miles drive away-plenty to see and do.
Plymouth is half an hour's drive south, mostly across the heather and gorse of Roborough Down, the city's large and very beutiful back garden. In the other direction, a few miles away is Tavistock, whilst one of the treasures of West Dartmoor also boasts "Meadowlands" with its leisure pool.
Nearby, there are other historic Devonshire villages and hamlets with names such as Sampford Spiney, Buckland Monachorum and Milton Combe where ancient churches and bridges and a variety of pibs and tea rooms can be found.
