The park is set in the heart of one of the finest areas in Scotland. Though small, Ballater is the main centre in the eastern Cairngorms National Park. It lies on the Victorian Heritage Trail at the heart of Royal Deeside just eight miles from royal Balmoral Castle. Queen Victoria referred to Royal Deeside as her own “Dear Paradise” and it is easy to see why. Ballater is a charming and busy little town offering a wide range of shops and great places to eat and drink. Quite a few of the shops display Royal Warrants, proof of their excellent quality. They also have their own 18 hole golf course, bowling green and tennis courts. During cold weather you can use the curling rink.
Walkers will find a number of lovely and interesting walks in the area., including the very popular and easy 'Seven Bridges' walk . More challenging walks can be found in the surrounding hills. Nearby Loch Muick offers a wonderful circular walk as well as access to the fine mountain Lochnagar, which is one of the most popular of “Munros”.
Guests can enjoy cycling of all sorts in the local area. The hills are a great place for mountain biking while the conversion of the old railway into the Deeside Way enables cyclists to enjoy a gentle flat ride right through to Aberdeen, which is 40 miles away. Fishermen can visit the Dee River, which is considered one of the great salmon rivers in Scotland. A variety of local lochs offer visitors a chance to go trout fishing. This is a fine area also for wildlife and it contains two National Nature reserves – Muir of Dinnet and Glen Tanar.
Ballater Caravan Park is also is a great location for exploring the castles, whisky distilleries and highland games of eastern Scotland. In addition to Balmoral Castle, the holiday home of the Royal Family, other nearby castles include Braemar Castle, Crathes Castle and Drum Castle.
